So, I've caught up with last year's ARSC friends, met some amazing new people, and have seen quite a few more sites of the city.
Yesterday, I ventured out with a friend for beingets and cafe au lait, a museum tour, and then ventured to find the St. Roch cemetery that was named for St. Roch's healing powers and known for the braces and canes people left behind in the chapel. Last night also included the ARSC reception and meeting more new, wonderful people, going out, and asking for a drink in a "to go" cup just for the NOLA experience.
Today, after a full day of presentations, especially after learning so much from one from IU (I'm taking some of that massive survey knowledge back for my CUA projects!), another reception and museum tour, dinner at what was once a rich family's restaurant/estate, and then JAZZ at the Palm Court! Real NOLA JAZZ with more amazing, new people. Then we ventured to Frenchmen St, the scene of the best jazz clubs, and made plans for tomorrow night after browsing some of tonight's acts and the posters for tomorrow's. Delfeayo Marsalis is playing at Snug Harbor tomorrow night! One the way back we stopped and danced to a growing band of street musicians on a corner, and got more beignets at Cafe Du Monde. The air is full of music and energy, and smells like beignets and powdered sugar. Only in NOLA...
Have I mentioned how wonderful ARSC and NOLA are?
